NLP focuses on modifying our subconscious mind. This is because the subconscious mind has immense powers on our everyday activities even though we don’t realize this. Planning and strategizing emanates from our mind. This means that we can apply NLP in all of our planning and strategizing.
It is not surprising since a proper control of our subconscious mind will enable us to eventually control our outcomes. Outcomes can be greatly influenced with planning and strategizing.
In the world of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, we consider a strategy as a recipe for results. It is the way you plan, order and sequence our experiences and actions in order to produce a specific desired results. It is a thought pattern that produces the results we see around us. Even though most person do not engage in strategizing, strategy can be used in every sphere of our lives such as in getting motivated, pulling off a business deal, passing an exam, falling in love.
In explaining the importance of strategy, Tony Robbins had this to say:
“We have a strategy for everything — for motivation, for buying, for love, for being attracted to someone. Certain sequences of stimuli will always achieve a specific outcome.
Strategies are like the combination to the vault of your brain’s resources. Even if you know the numbers, if you don’t use them in the right sequence, you won’t be able to open the lock. However, if you get the right numbers and the right sequence, the lock will open every time.
So you need to find the combination that opens your vault and those that open other people’s vaults as well.”
The Strategy Modalities
These modalities are referred to as the main ingredients and they are your five senses which are: Visual, kinesthetic, auditory, gustatory, and olfactory. They are referred to as the sensory inputs. These sensory inputs are considered on two levels- the external and internal. This means that we can process them both internally and externally. For instance, when you imagine something with your internal eye, that is visual internal. On the other hand, when you hear a sound, that is auditory external.
All of these sensory ingredients are utilized in NLP planning and strategizing. And they will have to be sharp and active as possible to arrive at worthy strategies. Especially considering the fact that some strategizing is impromptu and will have to be done almost instantaneously.
The Use of Notation
In strategizing with NLP, it easier when you use notations and make notes all through the way. In this method, “V” stands for visual, “A” for auditory, “K” represents kinesthetic, “O” means olfactory, and “G” is for gustatory. Then in terms of the level, ‘i’ is for internal and ‘e’ for external. Using this notation, a strategy that is based on kinesthetic and it is internal will be represented as Ki and Ae for auditory external.
Using NLP for Strategizing:
- Model your Strategies: If as an individual, you want to better your results in work and life, the best thing to do is to take a look at the strategies you use and change the ones that needs to be changed.
- Model the strategies of others: You can also look at the strategies being applied by people around you and incorporate the ones that are result-oriented.
- Modelling of Excellence: as a way of emulating success, you can model excellence by using strategies.
- Also you can also share what you know with others as a way of helping them accelerate their results as well. It becomes even more necessary if you are a mentor, a parent, a leader, or a teacher, a friend, this is especially helpful so that you can help lift others up and make others great. This will also make you feel great and more confident.
